Sailing

Whitecaps in Little Traverse Bay today.

Mr. says it is too windy for the "big" boat,
we will sail in the two person Sunfish.

Seems dubious to me,
I suggest an afternoon on land.

But Mr. insists.

Here we are (I'm in the hat) being offered rescue by the kite surfer.
Naturally no one got the photo of us actually sailing.

No excitement there.

Then...
we had to swim in and the boat was towed.
Because the boom broke.
in half.

We made it safely back to shore.

Hat and all.

Northern Lights?

Last night I was told the Northern Lights would be visible
from 11PM-2AM.
I was all over it.

Mr. and I searched for a good tri-pod place on the beach.

These shots used a 30-second shutter speed.

I was so excited.

Then Mr. rained on my parade.

"It's lightning."

Still a pretty amazing show.
I sat there for about 30 minutes,
looking North,
watching it all.

I could never capture the best parts.

Then the clouds rolled in,
but it didn't rain
or cool off.

Around Bay View

A few summer scenes from an evening walk
in Bay View

Family s'more night

This is Mr.'s sister.

She organized Family Spaghetti Night.
Since we are all at our cottages.
And we are all neighbors for the summer.

For dessert we made suburban s'mores.
Here is #1 nephew.

Suburban s'mores are roasted on a regular backyard gas grill.
Not quite the same as over a fire.
Less trouble for sure.
You can still catch your marshmallow
on fire though.

And the baby had his first s'more.
He didn't like his hands getting sticky.
He kept complaining to have his hands washed.
But he wouldn't give up his s'more.
